Identity for machines and delegated work.
Agent identity is the system for machines to identify themselves and for people to delegate work to them using proofs and keys. This page describes what it does and states plainly that it does not exist in this launch build. Agent identity arrives in phase 2.
Machines that can hold identity and act on your behalf.
When a machine needs to do something that requires proof of identity — checking your age, accessing a credential, signing a message — it needs its own identity to work from. Agent identity lets machines identify themselves and hold delegated authority tied to a person's own keys.
Why machines need identity in the estate.
An application running on your device wants to check a proof you hold. A service wants to verify something on your behalf. These operations need more than just your wallet — they need machine-to-machine identity and the ability to delegate work. Agent identity provides that without breaking the custody model.
This is not in this launch. It arrives in phase 2.
The architecture is specified and work has begun. But agent identity does not run in this launch build. When it ships, this page will link to the delegation APIs and examples.
Bounded authority, not blanket access.
The idea is specific, not a vague "let machines log in." A device or an autonomous agent gets delegated authority with a scope and an expiry, and a withdrawal anyone can verify. A delegation that cannot be scoped, timed and withdrawn is not delegation — it is a shared password with extra steps, and this page will not describe it as more than that.
There is no device layer in the platform today: no device enrolment, no device credential type, no device key custody. That is named here plainly rather than assumed away or left for a roadmap slide.

- Does this change custody?
- No. Your keys stay on your device. Agent identity adds a layer of delegation on top of that, but does not change where the primary keys live.
